How to Wash and Clean Cotton & Linen Materials

Both cotton and linen require proper care to maintain their quality, softness, and durability. Here’s a guide to washing them correctly:

Washing Cotton

Machine Wash:

  • Use cold or warm water (30–40°C or 86–104°F) to prevent shrinking.
  • Use a mild detergent (avoid harsh chemicals).
  • Wash similar colors together (whites with whites, darks with darks).

Hand Wash (for delicate cotton items):

  • Use lukewarm water and a mild detergent.
  • Gently swirl the fabric, avoid excessive scrubbing.

Drying Cotton:

  • Tumble dry on low heat or air dry.
  • Remove from the dryer while slightly damp to prevent excessive wrinkles.

Ironing Cotton:

  • Use a medium-hot iron (if needed).
  • Spritz with water for stubborn wrinkles.

Stain Removal:

  • Treat stains immediately using baking soda or mild soap.
  • Avoid bleach, as it weakens fibers.

Washing Linen

Machine Wash:

  • Use cold or lukewarm water (30°C or 86°F).
  • Choose a gentle cycle and use a mild detergent.
  • Avoid overloading the machine to prevent excessive wrinkles.

Hand Wash (for delicate linen):

  • Soak in cold water with mild detergent for a few minutes.
  • Gently rub stains (do not wring or twist).

Drying Linen:

  • Air drying is best – lay flat or hang in a shaded area.
  • Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.
  • If using a dryer, low heat and remove while damp to prevent excessive wrinkles.

Ironing Linen:

  • Use a high-heat iron with steam while linen is slightly damp.
  • Press on the reverse side to protect the fabric.

Stain Removal:

  • Blot stains immediately using vinegar, baking soda, or mild soap.
  • Avoid harsh scrubbing to prevent fiber damage.

Extra Care Tips:

🔹 Always check the fabric label for specific care instructions.
🔹 Use a laundry bag for delicate or embroidered items.
🔹 Store both fabrics in a cool, dry place to prevent mold or mildew.
